Day Trips
The Similan Island Group
An archipelago of nine islands, these are the centerpiece of Thailand's Diving Usually accessed by liveaboards, but can now be enjoyed on our high speed speedboats and some catamarans. Massive boulders and swim-throughs underwater are the residents to more than 500 species of hard and soft corals and an unbelievable variety of Reef dwelling fish as well as quite a few large pelagic fish Too. The Similan Is. As well as Richelieu Rock, and Koh Bon, and Koh Tachai are all part of the sites that are ranked in the top 10 dive sites in the world.
Anemone Reef
A stunning submerged reef 3-5m below sea level absolutely covered in soft and hard coral. A huge abundance and variety of fish can be found - leopard sharks out sleeping on the sand, nurse and Bamboo sharks hiding in holes and crevices,
Great Barracuda, Tuna, and Trevally, Anemone Fish safely tucked in their Anemones The list goes on and on. One of the best all around dive sites near Phuket, suitable for all levels of certification.
Near Koh Phi Phi ( Koh Bida Nai-Nok)
A great variety of dive sites around Koh Phi Phi Lei (the small Island) allow a wide variety of species to be observed when you dive here, - from the smaller reef and coral dwellers, to Bamboo and leopard sharks, even some of the larger and more elusive White tip, and Black tip reef sharks. Even the chances of seeing a whale shark (Jan-Feb) - Great corals -brain, soft, stag horn and sea fans.
King Cruiser Wreck
Sinking in 1997, the King Cruiser wreck was a 85m long Japanese Car ferry. She lies in an upright position in 32 meters of water at the keel. This is used to be an excellent opportunity to wreck dive, however the wreck is collapsing very badly now, mostly due to the warm waters that we enjoy here.
That and the fact that the visibility is only good about 50% of the time, and the sites usually high currents makes it not one of our Favorites.
Shark Point
Covered with soft sponges and coral, the tip of the primary pinnacle (of three) this reef only just breaks the surface. Plagued with the higher currents that King cruiser is, this dive site is great. The currents themselves provide a huge abount of plankton and high oxygenation for the life here. The reef is alive with fish of every imaginable kind and size, a definite must for pelagic spotting. This is the best local site for seeing Leopard sharks.
Koh Dok Mai
This wall dive is one of the richest sites in animals that are unique for our area. IE: Seahorses. All the usual creatures are also all in attendance, White eyed Morays, Squat lobster as well as all the usual reef and coral fish, including Damsels like the Clown, Skunk, Tomato, Three spotted, Anemone fish Etc.
Huge Green Variegated Morays, a large array of shell fish, like coral cleaner shrimps, and the ever popular Alpheid Shrimp. Usually this site is dived as a drift dive. It also has a couple of small caves, however we cant recommend penetration of these spaces, unless a diver is fully certified for overhead diving, and has all required equipment to do so.
Koh Racha Yai
Now we come to the actual “pearl” of the local dive sites.Known for its easy diving, this site is fantastic year around. The calm water has a clarity year around and an excellent variety of marine life. Visibility is in the 20m-80ft range. Selections of hard coral fringe reefs lie all along the east coast, and the wreck of the Andaman Explorer lies at the northeast tip. This Island offers something for all levels of divers, from Beginners, to the most advanced. A true joy to dive.
Koh Racha Noi
Giant underwater boulders almost exactly, like what we have in the Similan Island group, covered with an immense variety of coral combined with excellent visibility (30-100ft.) makes this an excellent dive site. Very good chance of seeing large marina animals - whale sharks, manta rays, stingrays, leopard sharks. This dive site is more suited to the intermediate levels of Divers and above.
